I stayed home! No complaints here. I enjoyed my stay at the Kings Gate Inn, All moving on slow speed. No rushing to get anywhere or on any schedule, especially with the children. Let them set the pace for the day.
During the school year I find myself rushing which makes everyone anxious, so I’ve cut that out. I rise and shine with the birds, yet get to go back for to snuggle with my boys. They come alive around 11:00 am or thereabouts; whatever works for them works for me.
Breakfast is literally foraging I start with what is in the garden and then mix that with what is in the fridge. I am so thrilled that there are no lunches to pack. By the end of the school year I’m fed up with that chore.
So no lunches to pack, no urgent laundry needs, and meals – easy – whatever I find at the Farmers Market I whip up quickly.
Keep the To Do List to a minimum! Let’s see…
- Water the garden.
- Read my book on the porch.
- Invite friends for dinner more often.
- Take weekend trips.
In a stroke of genius (if I do say so myself), I placed a Ping Pong table out on the driveway and my boys are having a ball. Friends come over, matches are set and the time goes on without a complaint.
Yesterday we went out! We headed to the library and I treated the boys to lunch. How exciting! The boys are old enough to start cooking for themselves and so they even make me omelets. Talk about a treat!
The best part of all of this is that the day gets woven into something special. Something each one of us has created. We are living our summer with no schedule.
What is a stay vacation? For me it started with looking at my home and realizing that I loved my home and everything it offers. I am thrilled to see my boys enjoy their time off from a long year of school in a place that encourages family and friends. Our home is a place where I can explore my passion of creating warmth, happiness and comfort.
What are you doing this summer?
